Susan from Wisconsin

My name is Sue. I was a caregiver for both my parents. My mom Shirley died of lung cancer six years ago. My dad Louie of dementia a year ago. I took a leave of absence from my job to take care of my mom. After she passed I switched jobs and became a caregiver. When my dad became ill, I again took off of work to care for him. When he became violent and unable to stay at home I worked nights so my days were free to help him. Caregiving is one of the hardest and yet most rewarding job there is. If there is one thing I wish, it is that caregivers could be paid a wage that reflected the job they do.
