Marci from Wyoming

My name is Marci DeLong and I took care of my husband Ronald for eight months as he had had three strokes in a nine month time frame. He was in and out of the hospital and I took care of him at out apartment. Bought food, clothing and various other items for him. My two daughters also helped with his care. He ended up going into a rehab facility and then was admitted into a nursing home. While in the nursing home care, me and my daughter's still cared for him. He was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and several other illnesses and he lost all of his cognitive and fine motor skills. I would help feed him, change his clothes, brush his hair and teeth. He had the mind of a five-year-old in a 48-year-old body. Between my daughter's and I, we managed to give him the best care that we possibly could. The nursing home he was in was not the greatest so a lot of times we had to pitch in and help with his care due to things not being done properly. In the end, he eventually went into ICU and then hospice due to severe kidney failure and congestive heart failure. Those eight months were long but very rewarding. My husband and I were married almost 26 years and he died on February 6, 2017 at the age of 49.
