Mary from South Carolina

My mother Margret became ill with Alzheimers and I became her full time caregiver in the summer of 2011. Me and my husband cancelled our plans of spending the summer in our Florida beach house and I continued caring for her until she passed away in 2017. I didn't get much help from my siblings and it was caused a lot of strain on my marriage. We ended up divorcing in 2013. I have no regrets. My mother was a wonderful mother and she alway took great care of us kids. She worked two jobs to give us the best life possible. Being a single mom was hard on her but she did it. And she did it good. It was very sad watching her grow to not recognize me. Sometimes she would call me my sisters name and sometimes even not know she had children at all. Alzheimer's is a very sad disease.
