My mom climbed Mt. Fuji, camped in Alaska, rode a motorcycle and a jet ski in her 80's (always wanted to) and played 21 with her grandchildren for m&ms! In her later years, Marcela, a 70+ year angel took care of my mother for 8 years until she passed away at age 89. My mom was a breast cancer survivor, legally blind (retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, glaucoma), and had hearing loss and later memory loss. When my dad passed, Marcela and her dog Goldie, came into our lives and took care of my mom like her own. It has been 5 years this month, and I still see Marcela regularly for lunch and talk to her on the phone every week. She made sure everyday was a great day for mom and had her doing the hokie pokie, laughing, and living until her last breath! There are no words to express how grateful I am that our paths crossed! Marcela is still working, caring for our moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and helping them maintain their dignity and quality of life! Everyone should be lucky enough to know someone like Marcela.
