Wesley from Tennessee
My name is Theresa Watson and I am writing to tell the story of my dad, Wesley Pendergrass. He is the sole caregiver for my mother, Katherine Pendergrass, who has been stricken with the horrible disease of Alzheimer's. Dad has taken care of mom and the rest of us since they were married in 1959. I have one brother and one sister and we have provided mom and dad with 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchidren. Mom has been suffering from Alzheimer's for the past several years and Dad has been there every horrible step of the way. Mom had a stroke in 2012 and had to stay in a rehab facility for a month. Dad stayed there with her every night, sleeping in a recliner, just to make sure she knew he was there. He makes sure she always has everything she needs and wants. He keeps track of all of her medications and doctor appointments. He lives with all of the inconsistencies of Alzheimer's. The ups and downs are a constant roller coaster of emotion for both of them. The love he gives to her every day is a shining example to all of us of what kind of love can stand the test of time. For better or worse, he is there through it all. I could not be more proud to be his daughter.
