Linda from New Jersey

My name is Linda. My mom had a pretty bad stroke 2 years ago and somehow, she has recovered with some leftover balance and memory issues. She also has macular degeneration in both eyes and is legally blind. I'm disabled myself after having 7 very aggressive spine surgeries. My pain is really a problem, but my mom still needs me. When she gave up her license, I promised that I would never just let her rot in the house. I've kept my promise so far, but not without some difficulty at times. She can't take care of her bills anymore. She really can't cook. She does her best with other things, but she is starting to fall a lot. I've looked to see if there was anything in my state that could help me with gas expenses. I was shocked that there really isn't much help for a family member who is taking care of an elderly parent who wants to be at home. I take her to most of her appointments. Between mine and hers it can be a lot. I take her to hers and then she wants to go with me for mine. How do we say no? I can't. I do my best and she knows that. Funny how we can find strength when we need to.
