Donna from Kentucky

My mother, Pat has been battling various health issues for the past 14 years including two bouts of cancer (lung and bone). 18 months ago I moved into her home to care for her at the same time I was working full time in a very demanding job. It required me to commute 90 minutes twice a day. At first my help included taking her to various doctor visits and assisting with household chores. In May of this year I retired early to care for her 24/7. The biggest challenges are finding quality health care in a small town as well as the emotional impact of watching her decline in physical and mental capabilities. Each day you say goodbye to the person that once was active, bright and enjoyed each day of life. I am thankful and blessed to be able to spend this time with her.
