Deborah from New York

I am the oldest of 5 siblings, and fortunately have the help of 3 of those siblings when it comes to caring for our 90 and 93 year old parents.

My dad had a stroke in April leaving him with some cognitive issues, and it appears my mom's blood cancer has returned leaving her weak, tired and in need of blood transfusions every 3-4 weeks. On top of that mom has an enormous bed sore on her butt that needs to have a dressing change daily. They both need someone with them 24/7.

We recently signed up for hospice care for mom and have found that to be very helpful as they have arranged to get wound-care supplies, medical equipment and medicines.

Me, my sister, 2 of my 3 brothers, my husband, my brother-in-law and a part time CNA take turns caring for my parents. It is physically and mentally exhausting but it is our goal to keep them in their own home for the remainder of their days.
