My son Brian is 41 years of age and is on social security disability the last two years. Prior to that Medicaid. He has a dual diagnosis Bipolar 1 and chronic back and leg pain (permanent nerve damage) due to a work related injury suffered 6 years ago here in Las Vegas where he was asked to come in on a weekend to help set up for a convention and lifted over 2000 chairs and pulled something in his back. Brian was the manager of convention services and was not his job to do this but volunteered. Subsequently he had two major back surgeries, both of which failed. He currently takes 14 different medications for chronic pain, psychological issues, IBS, low testosterone levels, acid reflex. I help him financially and accompany him to all doctor appointments, help clean his apartment, manage and administer drugs, food shopping, Medicare choices, patient assistance programs, state assistance programs, etc. This has become a full time job for me and I can write a book on the many experiences I had with doctors, drug plans and state and local administrative staffs.
